Paralympian Trooper Johnson Shares an Unforgettable Message

We recently finished up a fantastic three weeks of camp!

A camp favorite speaker, and my friend, Paralympian Trooper Johnson inspired a group of kids with a message they will never forget:

"When you get knocked down, and you will get knocked down, you have a choice — stay there or get up!"

Trooper was in a car accident when he was 17 and paralyzed from the waist down. He was driving drunk and he suffered injuries that I can not even fathom. He has chosen to share his story to help kids understand the consequences to their actions and that no matter how bad life may get, you always have a choice.

In fact, Trooper was undefeated against 10 kids at camp!

USF Azzi Camp 2012

It's camp time! We just finished our USF Azzi Camp and we begin another week in Mill Valley this week.

 It's exciting for me to see how many young girls and boys in the Bay Area are playing basketball and loving it!

 We had a surprise guest at our USF camp. Rick Welts, President of the Warriors toured USF with me to explore the possibility of having a WNBA team play at USF while the Warriors build their arena. I am thrilled at the possibility of a team in the Bay Area!

Great season! Thank you everyone for your support.

I was very proud of our team this season because we were in every game.

Looking forward, the freshmen are the future of our program, and I'm excited to see this group gain confidence.

Miami Heat Practice at USF

The Miami Heat practiced in our gym today. It was really exciting for my team to get to meet the Heat players.

The guys were so gracious and nice to our players! Coach Spoelstra gave us a pep talk about having patience as we build our program. He said they (even at their level) focus on improvement every time they take the court, which is the message I give our team everyday.

It was awesome to hear that message from the best!
